1. Introduction
Welcome to Chat Viewer app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, how we store and protect it, and your rights regarding your information. By using Chat Viewer you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
2. Summary — the short version
- Chat Viewer processes exported WhatsApp chat files locally on the user’s device by default.
- We collect usage analytics (events) such as how often features are used. These are aggregated event metrics and do not include the contents of your chats.
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. What information we collect
3.1 Files you open (chat exports)
When you open or import WhatsApp exported chat files (for example:
.txt, or extracted media),
these files are processed locally on your device to
render chats, restore media filenames/extensions, and create views
or PDFs.
We do not upload the chat contents anywhere unless you choose to
share or export them (for example, using the app’s "Export as PDF"
or the share functions of your device).
3.2 Usage analytics and events
We collect anonymous and aggregated usage data to help improve the app. Examples of events we may collect:
- Which feature is used (e.g., Search, Export PDF, Jump to Date)
- Counts of feature usage (e.g., export initiated total)
- Crash reports and basic diagnostics
- General performance metrics (pdf generation durations)
- App version and device OS version
- Folder names (for example, “WhatsApp Chat with Chris”) are logged to understand general usage trends and the types of chats users import (maybe family, friends, works, e.t.c). These folder names are processed anonymously and are not used to personally identify any user.
These events do not include chat content, message text, or media. They are used in aggregate to improve the product.
3.3 Device and technical information
We may automatically collect standard device and usage information such as device model, OS version. This is used to understand platform usage and to troubleshoot issues.
4. How we use the information
- To provide and maintain the App’s core functionality.
- To analyze feature usage and improve performance and user experience.
- To respond to crash reports and bug diagnostics in order to fix issues.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We may disclose information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We may use third-party analytics or crash-reporting services to collect aggregated usage or crash data. These providers are contractually bound to only use data to provide services to us.
- Legal reasons: If compelled by law or to protect our rights or safety, we may disclose information as required.
- Business transfers: If the app is sold or merged, aggregate usage data may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to confidentiality obligations.

Usage analytics: We retain aggregated usage data for as long as necessary to provide the service and improve the app (typically months to a few years). We keep the minimum information needed for analytics.
Chat files: The App does not upload or retain your chat files on our servers. Any files you import remain on your device and are not uploaded anywhere!
7. Where data is stored and transfers
Everything processed within the app is performed locally on the user’s device. Like Favorites, are kept locally, and Everything else.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data collected by the App.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of personal data we control (subject to legal exceptions).
- Restriction and portability: Request limits on processing or ask for data portability where applicable.

The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).

Currently, Chat Viewer does not sell user data. If we later add advertising or monetization features, we will update this policy and clearly explain what data is collected and how it is used. In-app purchases and subscription details will be handled as required.
12. Third-party links and services
The App doesn't contain links to third-party websites or services. If we ever do, we will not be responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.
13. Analytics and crash reporting (example)
Example: We may use analytics and crash reporting tools (such as Google Analytics for Firebase) to collect anonymous event data and crash traces. These tools help us improve the app but do not receive chat contents.

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do, we will
